The EV era is nearing the market in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and as far as our knowledge goes, multiple companies have made several agreements and invested huge sums in this field so that every single person aiming to buy an EV is provided with all amenities and facilities needed. And according to the Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia is aiming to have approximately 30% of its cars to be electric by the next decade to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Electric Vehicles Terminology

Individuals living in Saudi Arabia are most likely uninformed about electric vehicles, and many questions will arise regarding this subject later on, which is why Motory.com has prepared a list that explains all the terms related to electric vehicles, therefore, helping potential buyers to read and understand these cars before purchasing them. 

EV

This abbreviation stands for Electric Vehicles

KW - Kilowatt

The unit used to measure the maximum power of an electric motor, and sometimes automakers will use horsepower (hp).

KWH - Kilowatt hours

This term is used for the battery capacity, which is the amount of energy consumed per hour.

Electric Range

The distance that an electric vehicle can travel on a single charge (fully charged), and it’s measured in either kilometers or miles.

AMP - Ampere

This represents the maximum amount of electrical current flowing into the battery, as most electric cars accommodate around 32 amps.

Level 1 Charging 

This charger uses a 110-volt outlet, and it’s considered one of the slowest types of chargers, as it takes 8-24 hours to fully charge a battery.

Level 2 Charging

This charger uses a 240-volt outlet, which is the most common type in charging stations and other public places in various countries around the world.

Level 3 Charging

It is the least used type but the fastest among them, as it has the ability to charge the car battery from 0 to 80% within 30 minutes, it’s also called DC sometimes.

Battery Pack

This term refers to the main component of a vehicle's electric motor, which is the battery.

Lithium Ion Battery

One of the most common types of batteries used in electric cars due to its ability to retain a high amount of energy.

CCS Port

It is a charging connector used for electric cars, as it was manufactured according to international standards and has been standardized among most brands.

Regenerative Braking

It’s an advanced system used in electric and hybrid cars, and it works on replenishing the consumed energy through the force of braking and deceleration, then, this energy is transferred to the battery.

SOC - State of Charge

The meter behind the steering wheel that indicates how much charge is left in the battery
