Fueling the car with the wrong fuel happens more often than not, which begs the question what happens when you put the wrong fuel in a car:

- If you put higher octane fuel in a car with a lower octane rating: Nothing really except that you pay more for nothing
- If you put lower octane fuel in a car with a higher octane rating: you will hear knocking sounds, which may cause damage to your engine pretty quickly
