Masar Destination & Electromin To Launch EV Bus Rapid Transport System

In efforts to achieve environmental sustainability in the Middle East, Umm Al-Qura for Development and Construction, the owner and developer of the Masar Destination, has entered into an agreement with Electromin Ltd. (a Petromin Company) to launch the first electric Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system in the Middle East. This initiative aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, which emphasizes on building a greener and more efficient future.

This collaboration was agreed upon in the presence of several key figures and business leaders from both companies, including the CEO of Umm Al-Qura, Yasser Abuateek, and the CEO of Petromin Group, Kalyana Sivagnanam.

Strategic Collaboration 

It was indicated that this system will be operated within the Masar Destination in Makkah. Electromin will manage and operate the electric Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system through two main stations, in addition to 11 stop stations within the Masar Destination. The system will serve over 125 million passengers during the contract period, covering more than 15.8 million kilometers, with a guarantee of a safe system that separates vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

Objectives 

  • Reducing emissions by over 31.5 million kilograms of carbon dioxide
  • Decreasing nitrogen oxide and fine particulate matter
  • Improving air quality and public health in Makkah

The CEO of Petromin Group, Kalyana Sivagnanam stated in his latest statement: “This agreement reaffirms our commitment to promoting innovation and excellence by implementing the Middle East’s first electric vehicle rapid transit system. In alignment with the transformative goals of Saudi Vision 2030, our aim is to make sustainable mobility accessible to all. We are proud to partner with Umm Al-Qura on this pioneering and unique initiative in the field of mobility.”

On the other hand, the CEO of Umm Al-Qura, Yasser Abuateek, highlighted that this collaboration embodies Umm Al-Qura's commitment to developing "Masar" as a unique destination that meets the highest standards of luxury and safety for its visitors.
