Lexus held an extraordinary competition and selected 6 students at the Royal College of Art in the U.K to present an imaginary form of what luxury cars might look like in 2040 with the ability to meet the needs of European city life, as it should also reflect Lexus’ role in modern cars and new mobility.
How will Luxury Cars Look in 18 Years From Now?
6 students presented an imagined what luxury cars might look like in the future, here's what they look like:
2040 Lexus Vision In-Season
It follows the Japanese concept "Ichi-Go، Ichi-E" in which it focuses on living and enjoying every moment, so Bangning An made sure to implement this concept the best way possible by adding the ability to control the intensity of daylight coming through the roof, along with the ability to change color schemes according to the seasons.
Crucible
It’s a hydrogen-powered car that allows the passengers to share mobility while retaining one’s private space, moreover, the designer Benjamin Miller built the cabin so it can adjust to all needs according to days of the week and weekends.
ALTO
Richard Newman drew it as vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) vehicle so it looks like a piece of jewelry in the sky. In addition, it can land on buildings so passengers can get on and off smoothly.
Lexus UrbanSwarm
Maxime Gauthier put forward a travel modular that combines a high level of comfort while accommodating a great number of passengers, for it looks like rail cars are connected together.
Lexus NEKO
It reflects the micro-mobility concept with luxury-on-demand in an electric car equipped with sensors and cameras, not only that, but the designer Jan Niehues added a 4D technology that can show the surrounding scenery for a fresh and remarkable experience.
Lexus #Units
The designer Zhenyu Kong created a luxury space that can be linked virtually with other vehicles and use it as a projector device.
According to the president of Toyota’s European advanced design studio, ED2, the contestants showed a great deal of creativity and innovation in their designs, he also said: “They demonstrated skill and imagination in bringing together their ideas for future mobility and vision of how the concept of Lexus premium quality might evolve.”
Lastly, each contestant will develop their ideas with the help of the judges, and on March 15 we will see the final and winning projects in London.
