Toyota announced last April an investment of $803 million to support the production of two new SUVs at its plant in Princeton, Indiana, one of which will be Toyota and the other is for Lexus.
All of the company's statements at the time were about the size of the new SUVs. As for the new SUVs, the four-wheel-drive cars will be quite large, consisting of three rows, aimed at young, active families, and these cars will be equipped with electricity and seats for up to eight people.
Citing Automotive News, it reported last week that a Toyota SUV would arrive by mid-2023, followed by a Lexus about six months later.
The Toyota will reportedly be a Grand Highlander with a long-wheelbase version. The Lexus will reportedly be renamed TX. Both names have been trademarked by the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
The new SUVs will provide greater capacity than the current Highlander and Lexus' extended RX, the RX L.
The Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana factory, where the new SUVs will be built, is currently home to the production of the Sienna minivan and the Highlander. The new Grand Highlander might be built on an improved version of the current Highlander, which has been on sale since the 2020 model year.
