The word went around on social media about the fire that broke out onboard the Felicity Ace ship, we still don't know what caused this fire, but thankfully the 22 crew members were saved and the fire was partially put out.
A captain of the nearest port said: “Our concern has been with pollution since the ship has large amounts of fuel onboard and car batteries”, but the fires did not spread towards the fuel tanks, and a specialized team was able to get on board and do their best to tow the ship to Europe or the Bahamas and inspect the damage.
Authorities reported that this ship might hold up to 4000 cars on board from different brands of VW; EVs, hybrids and lithium-ion batteries, and these batteries might be one of the main reasons why the fire spread so fast.
According to an internal VW email, the ship had a total of 3965 cars onboard including 1100 Porsche models, 189 Bentley models, along with Audi and Volkswagen who confirmed that a number of their cars were also there without giving precise numbers, speculations also point to a number of Lamborghini models being there as well.
This fire remains a mystery, as some think that it’s still on fire till this moment. A U.S. economist Patrick Anderson said this fire recorded an initial loss of around 282 million dollars, after the damage of three-fourths of the cargo that was heading towards the American market.
