Audi R8 to the retirement after 2023

Audi enthusiasts, particularly those who enjoy sports cars, will be disappointed. The German automaker has announced that 2023 will be the last model year for the R8 supercar, after introducing a final model with a coupe and convertible powered by a V-10.

There have been rumors of an electric successor for the Audi R8, although it is unclear when this would happen.

The First Appearance

The Audi R8 first appeared in 2008, and it was described as the company's bold move with a dramatic design that made the Porsche 911 and Ferrari F430 look old-fashioned. The car's first generation featured a 4.2-liter V-8 engine, while the second generation had a V-10 engine.

Despite only selling a few hundred R8s annually, according to reports, Audi has used it as a key halo model for its RS performance vehicles.

Audi saved its best for last, by introducing a new model for 2022, they have drawn influence from past R8 highlights in many ways, but particularly the dramatic appearance while the wing has become even more extreme.

The most significant change on the inside is also the smallest. On the steering wheel, a small dial appeared. This activates track mode, while the rotating dial around it activates the new 'Torque Rear' mode.

It is not only the most powerful rear-wheel drive R8, but it is also the lightest, with the help of Michelin Sport Cup 2 tires.
