Aston Martin has announced a partnership with Britishvolt -the British electric car battery manufacturer- to produce high-performance batteries for its future Evs fleet.
Aston Martin and Britishvolt will collaborate on research and development to design, develop, and industrialize battery packs, including unique components and a battery management system.
"Our targets will include producing new standards of charging time, range, and repeatable on-track performance," Aston Martin stated.
Aston Martin confirmed that the first two upcoming electric EVs will be: a sports car and an SUV, and the sports car will come first in 2025, it's expected to replace the DB11, and the electric SUV could follow in 2026.
As for the battery development field, Aston Martin does have experience with battery development. Previously, the automaker created an 800-volt battery for a proposed electric version of the Rapide, but the idea was canceled in 2020.
About Britishvolt, it was founded in 2019, but the firm is already building a battery plant in the United Kingdom. For the time being, it's focusing on lithium-ion battery technology and intends to offer solutions for both EVs and energy storage.
Aston Martin's collaboration with Britishvolt complements the company's strategic technology agreement with Mercedes-Benz AG .
It's worth mentioning that Aston Martin is the second British partner with Britishvolt, having previously collaborated with a number of automakers to manufacture electric batteries, including Lotus .
