The first 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 convertible was retailed for $1 million (3,750,000 million SAR), which was the final bid at Barrett-Jackson's latest auction in West Palm Beach, Florida, United States.
The sale was for charity, which means that General Motors will donate all of the proceeds from the sale to the Thurgood Marshall College Fund Teacher Quality and Retention Program.
This amount will be added to the proceeds of the previous Jackson Charity Auction, as in January of this year, the Corvette Z06 70th Anniversary Edition was sold for $3,6 million, and with the sale of the first Corvette Z06 Convertible; The total amount of money becomes $4,6 million, equivalent to 17,250,000 Saudi riyals.
The 2023 Chevy Corvette Z06 Convertible is considered one of the pioneering new models in the company's lineup that operates with naturally aspirated engines. The 2023 Chevy Corvette Z06 Convertible performance specs include a 5.5-liter V8 engine, generating 670 horsepower and 623 Nm of torque.
The transmission is an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic that sends power to the rear wheels only. The tachometer is able to fly to a lofty 8,600 rpm.
Notably, the person who managed to win the auction is Rick Hendrick, who is the Chairman and CEO of Hendrik Group, and owner of Hendrik Motorsport, the 14-time NASCAR Cup-winning team.
It's also worth mentioning that The initial $3,6 million was donated to Operation Homefront, a nonprofit focused on building secure, stable, and strong military families. The subsequent million benefits the Thurgood Marshall College Fund Teacher Quality & Retention Program, a fellowship that supports aspiring teachers.
The C8 Corvette generation is expected to spawn two performance levels above the Z06, one is expected to be a ZR1, and the other is the Chevrolet Corvette oft-rumored Zora C8, it's quite possible that these will be the last Corvettes with a V-8 as electric power could be the norm when the C9 generation arrives late this decade.
Pricing for the new Z06 hasn't been announced but is expected to start at around $90,000, which is 337,516 SAR.
